The label was founded by Olaf Bender, Frank Bretschneider and Michael
Kummer in Chemnitz in 1995 with the aim of releasing groundbreaking electronic
music.
By means of serial concepts and audio-visual performances, artistic standards
were defined early on.
rastermusic was renamed raster-noton in 1999 (in connection with the release of
the »20 minutes to 2000« series) and has been managed as a one-man
company by Olaf Bender (aka Byetone) since 2002.
In 2017, raster-noton was renamed raster-media.
raster-media sees itself as an independent »artistic platform« and would not be
imaginable without the diverse engagement of its associated artists.
In addition to music from well-known and emerging artists, raster-media also
releases books, data carriers, graphics and installation works.
Since the label was founded, the non-profit festival »Electric Campfire« has
taken place every year. Initiated as a private party on a farm in Chemnitz, the
»Electric Campfire« was an annual guest of the German academy »Villa
Massimo« in Rome for over ten years (2007 to 2017). Today, the festival
wanders between different locations worldwide with the aim of bringing artists
and community together.
