He tested out of high school in 2006, at the age of 16. [3] He made his television debut as Shane in the iCarly episode "iSaw Him First"[4] in 2008. He has a scar on his elbow, which he received while performing a hockey-related stunt for the first episode of Big Time Rush.[6] Maslow is Jewish.[7] In an interview with Clevver TV, when asked his favorite holiday, he replied Hannukah.[8] [edit] Big Time RushFor main article, see Big Time Rush and Big Time Rush (band). Big Time Rush is an American pop singing group that formed in 2009. The band consists of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Jr., and Logan Henderson, all on vocals. In 2007, Nickelodeon was casting and looking for people to be in a new band to be in a new sitcom called Big Time Rush. Maslow sent in his audition tape when his desire was in singing and acting. He got the role of James Diamond 2 years later. Kendall Schmidt won the role of Kendall Knight over many other people because of the difficult decision of casting him over others. Carlos Pena, Jr. and Logan Henderson sent in their audition tapes and were accepted to be Carlos Garcia and Logan Mitchell over thousands of other boys.[9] The boys have recorded many songs including the theme song of the same title as the show, "Any Kind Of Guy", "The City Is Ours", "Halfway There", "Famous", "Shot in the Dark", and "Stuck". Additional songs will be released throughout the show's first season. They and Nickelodeon are planning on releasing an album of songs from the first season of the show including some new ones. The album was released on October 11, 2010. Production notesThe series was conceived and created by Scott Fellows, formerly the creator, executive producer and showrunner of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.[7] Fellows says his inspiration for the show was the 1960s musical comedy show, The Monkees[8]—a popular and culturally significant American television series about a group of four young male adults who form a rock band, become famous, and sing songs while having comedic adventures.[9] Although the show had a concept as early as 2007, the series had no actual title as late as August 2009.[10] Nickelodeon partnered with Columbia/Epic Label Group to produce the show, which will incorporate original music into the series.[11] Big Time Rush is one of the three Nickelodeon shows (the others are iCarly and Victorious) on which the cable network is partnering with the music group to promote music as well as shows.[10] The four actors will sing in a band whose name will be "Big Time Rush."[2][12] The first single from the show, "Big Time Rush" (the series theme song), was released in November 2009.[2] Additional songs will be released throughout the show's first season.[2] The Los Angeles Times has been critical of the show's focus on music, noting: “ There is a marketing angle, to be sure, the same crossing of the revenue streams that powers "Hannah Montana" and "American Idol" and "Glee, " and whose conceptual forerunner was "The Monkees"—television shows that function as elaborate advertisements for music that in turn advertises the TV show. "Big Time Rush, " which has more than a little of "The Monkees" in its makeup, was developed with Sony Music specifically to move units.[7] ”

MusicMain article: Big Time Rush (band) Nickelodeon partnered with Columbia/Epic Label Group to produce the show, which is why music and music instrumentals are incorporated throughout the series. All or most of the music videos for the singles are available on YouTube.[3] Big Time Rush's debut album, B.T.R., was released on October 11, 2010 via Sony/Columbia.[4] One of the songs featured on the album, "Halfway There, " switches the first and second verses when it is compared to the single. This means that on the album, James is the first voice featured, as compared to the single where Kendall is the first to sing. After the wrapping of the show's second season, Big Time Rush will be going on their first headlining tour. One of the songs featured on the show, "Shot in the Dark", has yet to be released in its full version. Two songs "Oh Yeah" and "Worldwide" have yet to be featured in the show. Big Time Rush released an EP called "Holiday Bundle", which was released on November 30, 2010. It featured 2 new songs: "All I Want For Christmas" and "Beautiful Christmas". On Big Time Christmas, the guys sang "All I Want For Christmas" as a duet with Miranda Cosgrove. However, the guys recorded a solo version of the song on the EP, which covered Mariah Carey's original song, "All I Want For Christmas is You." In Big Time Christmas, Snoop Dogg did a duet with the guys in their version of "12 Days of Christmas" and in a new song called "Let’s Stay in Our PJs". What is unique about "Let’s Stay in Our PJs" is that the guys' voices sound like chipmunks while Snoop Dogg sings normally in the song. [5][6]
