I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and moved to Canada at the age of two, where I was raised in Toronto, Ontario. I speak fluent French, English, and Bulgarian. My mother is an artist, and my father is a computer scientist. I have one older brother. From a very young age, I showed great enthusiasm and talent for the arts: dance, gymnastics, theatre, music, visual arts and acting. I attended J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough, Ontario. I attended Ryerson University in Toronto, majoring in sociology. I left in 2008 to pursue my acting career. I began dating my The Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder in 2011.
