Ai Ohto (大戸アイ, Ōto Ai) is the main protagonist of Wonder Egg Priority. She is a self-described shut in who does not go to school due to severe bullying for her heterochromia and likely other things.
Ai is a young girl of average height and petite stature. Her most distinguishing feature is her heterochromia, which causes her right eye to be a yellowish brown and her left eye to be aquamarine. She has dark blue hair which she wears in a fluffy bob cut with a long ahoge swooping towards her left side. Above her right eye is a yellow triangular hair clip while her left eye is naturally covered up by her bangs. Ai is often seen wearing a bright yellow rain-hoodie with a sunflower and volleyball shorts when outside, and a casual purple tank top at home. When attending school she wears the school uniform, a dark navy jumper skirt and green tie. Her shoes of choice are white and blue platform sneakers.
Ai is generally seen with a calm and/or blank expression on her face, but has been shown to get quite emotional and expressive when in high-pressure situations. She often wears a small smile around her friends.
Ai Ohto is a generally introverted girl who spends most of her time alone. She dislikes being around people who have hurt her friends and is extremely brave and protective when it comes to people that she cares about. Originally, she doesn't think having friends is important but does recognize the importance of having a best friend, or someone you can always rely on. However, she did make friends with a transfer student named Koito Nagase, who is similarly ostracized by her peers.
Being a victim of bullying, Ai is extremely self-deprecating. When Koito committed suicide, Ai blamed herself, and is committed to saving her. After saving Kurumi Saijo in the first episode, we see a strong sense of determination and perseverance from Ai as she declares that she will continue saving people until she can bring Koito back to life.
From time to time, Ai is seen reminiscing about the loss of her friend, and suffers from the tremendous guilt of letting her commit suicide. This guilt she experiences manifests into an unbroken determination to bring her friend back. Indirectly, she also spawns a sense of helpfulness and kindness, seen exclusively in the second episode when she helps Minami Suzuhara in taking on her inner fears and worries. This personality trait of her is also seen in the real world with Neiru Aonuma, offering to be her friend to overcome both sides’ loneliness.
